Are you on a diet.. without even realizing it?

Are you on a diet.. without even realizing it?

I’ve met a lot of women who insist, “I’m not on a diet.”

These women are not doing traditional diets—like Atkins, Weight Watchers, or Jenny Craig. Instead, they tell me...

“I’m going Paleo.”

“I’m going gluten-free for while.”

“I’m doing the Whole30 program.”

“I’m on a detox juice cleanse right now.”

“I’m cutting out refined sugar and carbs. But it’s not a ‘diet’, it’s more like… a new lifestyle.”

But the thing is… all of these trendy new programs, systems, detoxes, cleanses, and “new lifestyles”? They’re all DIETS! They might not be called “diets,” but that’s exactly what they are.

Even Weight Watchers has come up with a catchy new name, WW, to stay with the current non-diet trend and try to delude their customers that what they’re selling isn’t a diet when it 199% is a diet.

So what is a “diet,” exactly?

Here’s one of the best definitions I’ve found:

Christy Harrison says that a diet (or diet culture) is "anything that promotes weight loss, demonizes certain foods while elevating other, worships thinness and equates it to health and moral value and oppresses people who don't match up to a supposed picture of health."

Consider the way you’ve been eating lately.

Is it rigid because it's underlying goal is weight loss? Unpleasurable? Unsustainable? (Meaning, you could probably “stick with it” for a few weeks—but you wouldn’t want to eat this way forever because it’s too complicated or restrictive?)

If you answered “Yes” to one, two, or all three of those things, then you are on a diet—and diets don’t work. They always backfire in the end.

The good news is that you can find a happy balance.

You can eat nourishing meals—meals that keep you feeling healthy, vibrant, and strong—while still keeping things flexible, pleasurable, and sustainable. Yes, it’s possible. No, it’s not witchcraft or sorcery! It’s real and you can live that way.

If you want to figure out how to find that happy balance, but you’re not sure how to do it, please check out my services to see how I can help. We can do it together.

PS. C'mon, Wonder Woman, we can take down diet culture together.
