You Want A Plan?

When I tell women, “Listen to your body, and it will tell you what it needs,” some women feel totally on-board with this concept. Others feel skeptical. Some even argue with me, saying:

“Listen to my body? That’s way too vague. I need a meal plan to follow. And I need a workout plan. Give me a plan, and I’ll do it.”

The thing is, listening to your body is not vague. It’s actually very specific. 

Right now, as I type…

I can feel that I’m a little thirsty and I need some water. 

I can feel the air in the room and I notice that I’m comfortable, not too hot, not too cold. 

I can feel the subtle feeling of fullness in my belly from the snack I had an hour ago. 

I can feel a dull ache in my shoulders from a little too much sitting and typing, and I know that some stretching would feel great.

I can feel that I’m not really hungry right now, but I probably will be soon. (And, once I’m hungry later and I open the fridge, look at a menu, or wander down the grocery aisle, I know that certain foods will “jump out” at me. My body will tell me, “That’s what I want, please.”)

That’s a lot of pretty specific information about how I feel—and what my body needs right now. It took me about five seconds to scan my body and gather this information. You can do this, too. 

You want a plan to follow? The ideal food, fitness, and wellness plan for your body? It’s called T.I.P. The Turn Inward Plan. I also recommend the L.T.Y.P. Listen To Yourself Plan. Or, my other favorite: the Y.B.I.V.S.P. That’s the Your Body Is Very Smart Plan. These are excellent plans. :)

Joking aside, the best plan is to listen to whatever your body is asking you to do, and then do it. If you can’t do “exactly” what your body is requesting, then do the “next closest thing.” 

That’s it. That’s the only plan worth following. 

Do this, and I promise you will sleep more deeply, have more energy, feel less preoccupied and anguished about food, feel more comfortable in your skin, your stress levels will drop, your confidence will rise, and you’ll enjoy your life so much more. 

Sounds like a good plan to me.
